Here's a little something I do for all the sites that either offer a free service or that I simply happen to visit for various reasons. Before I leave, I always make sure I click on at least one of their adsense ads.
Especially for those who offer a free service -- like the pingoat site that pings my blogs every day. After I ping, I click on whatever adsense ad is there. Is that wrong? I don't know.
When I first got involved with adsense, I made all the classic mistakes associated with it. One, for reasons I'll never fathom, was to avoid clicking on others' adsense ads. Looking back, I realize how stupid that is. Of course, I don't want to waste the money of those advertising with adwords. But I DO want to support those that help me. So, to assuage my conscience, I look at the ads I click on with some level of interest. And several times I've actually found a site with which I ended up doing business.
I think everyone should do this for the sites they wish to support. If we did, everyone would be using the whole adsense concept for OUR benefit. After all, if you're leaving a site anyway, why not "pay as you go?" ;-)
It's the cyber equivalent of throwing a few coins in the change jar. But if it helps that site remain online, so much the better.--mo
