In deciding to change the format of this blog, I keep finding things that A) I could also change while I'm at it and B) Things I should be adding, deleting, in short, updating.
While posting to my blog falls under the category (yeah, yeah, in my desperate attempt to maintain some kind of control, I even have 'categories') of daily chores, in order to keep it from over-running my life (and all my other work), updating the blog falls under the category of Projects. So, while it may seem strange for a while, bear with me.
One thing I should have started off with is my background. At least a brief history of me. (Very brief. 5-minute version.)
BACKGROUND
I am an unmarried mother of two children, both taller than me, and we live in a small cottage overlooking a lovely hollow. I rent my house, but if I owned it I would call it Creek Hollow, since a charming creek with small waterfalls flows through it. I would also renovate it so that the dining room overlooked the hollow. Now the only time I can enjoy the view is when I'm doing dishes.
Apart from a 3-year stint in a major corporation and 9 years as a bartender, I've worked independently in one capacity or another most of my life. When I was young, I cleaned houses for a living. Later, while my children were young, I made crafts at home and sold them at craft shows. I was also an editor for a craft show newsletter (offline) during that time, and I helped my ex-husband run a landscaping business for over 10 years. Since July of 2005, I've been working online.
I admit one of my dreams has always been to work at home, though I always pictured myself being a novelist or screen writer, rather than an affiliate marketer. Still, I find my life is 95% writing, so I'm not complaining.
They (that is, the 'experts') say it takes between 6-9 months of steady work before one sees a profit from working online. My running expenses (for things such as memberships, etools, etc.,) average about $200/month. Last month was the first month I've made more than that. But I have only been at it 5-6 months. I was hoping, since I work at it full time, that I might a return sooner. But the 'learning curve' must be factored into the equation. And that's something that's different for each person. For me, it's been a matter of finding out what works and why.
Also, because I hadn't planned to stop working (unexpected illness forced me to stay home), I wasn't really prepared for it, either. That's part of my equation, too. But, thankfully, I had some experience with the internet and with web design, so I wasn't starting from 'zero' either.
Well, that's me, at least on the business level. Oh, by the way, the reason my nickname is Mo (taken from my initials, Marige O'Brien), is because most people have trouble saying my first name, Marige. It's not really that hard. Phonetically, it's pronounced, Mar-EEg, with a soft "g". But it throws people off-- if they can remember it (also a problem). Mo is easy.--mo
