Welcome!
Another Installment in As The Marketer Turns. . . LOL! Though some of these make me squirm with embarrassment, they do show the developments as a marketer and in marketing-- it's everything from fun to frustrating. Just like the rest of the internet. (So, you "think" you want to work here, huh?) ;-)

This was written to commemorate the efforts of moderators on Forums everywhere-- after spending some time in the trenches myself!

Forum Woes & UnSung Heros
Back To Directory
I must say, some of the great unsung heros in OPFM are the moderators and site admins that work on that forum each and every day. Right along side of them are all the managers, working to put the programs together.

One thing that is, for the most part, unknown by the general membership of OPFM is that these people receive some kind of reward for their efforts. Nothing could be further from the truth. I know several of them personally. None of the managers nor any of those on the forum receive anything from OPFM for their efforts, not even some promised future bonus. And, while most of the managers are experienced marketers, this also means they have going concerns of their own, which they must attend to, or they won't have any income at all.

Yet I have seen posts from some members that range from snide aspersions of the mods and site admins income to out-and-out insults regarding the mismanagement, plus countless "constructive" criticisms that really only point out the author's complete LACK of awareness of the whole situation.

Why do the mods, admins and mgrs then do this thankless work? Why don't they speak up? Because they are trying to set a good example; they are trying to behave professionally. So, like many others, they simply ignore these useless negative comments and remarks and focus on the work.

Because they are trying to help. . . because they want OPFM to succeed -- and believe it WILL succeed -- so much so that they're willing to put in private hours in order to see it happen. Oh, there are a few that use their positions to build their downlines. . . but you can't blame them. They spend 20+ hours helping others. Time they would otherwise be spending out on the interenet, doing the same thing.

But the most unsung of the unsung heros remain those working on the forum.

Those moderators have been put in a hellish position-- trying to maintain some semblance of order in what has often become a chaotic frenzy of questions, doubts and negative aspersions about OPFM. And the odds are against them. There's over 3000 members on the forum, only a handful of moderators. And, while the forum is still open to the public, plans are in place to privatize it ASAP-- for security purposes, if nothing else. But, more than that, to make the membership realize this is a business forum-- not their latest cyber coffee clatch.

Plus, several times spammers and scammers have become members, cozied up to the general membership -- all without being members of OPFM at all -- and have either tried to bring the program down, or used information they gained there to deliberately mislead the members into joining their own programs, sending emails and in which they pose as OPFM managers. . . In fact, there's talk of restricting access ONLY to Active members (i.e., those who are in paid status in Empowerism and LHN), which isn't a bad idea.

One thing people don't seem to realize in this seamless society called the internet is that, without walking through any doors or peeking in any windows, one can move from a playful, fun place, to a serious business environment in the time it takes for a webpage to load. But no more. . .

While OPFM's leader, Thomas Thompson is a generous and kind individual, it's up to his troops (especially the moderators at the forum) to be on guard for any who would abuse his kindness. And they are legion. And it's the forum moderators who are on the front line.

But are they thanked by the membership? No. They're called "mean" and "rotten" and other, less printable names. Yeah, they're mean-- because they enforce the rules and prevent people from abusing a forum that was created to benefit OPFM's members-- not take advantage of them, or abuse it for the sake of outside interests.

Sometimes, when I see things like this. . . I just shake my head and wonder about this world. You know, if it weren't against the rules, I would go and post a link to this blog, for their editification. . . but I have all kinds of my own affiliate links here. Oh, well.--mo
